Day 331 - Arts and Crafts

Leave it to Grandma to come up with some fun activities for the little ones to do while taking a break from hiking, eating, more hiking, being eaten by bugs, getting dirty, and making smores. They loved it all!

Day 330 - Making Friendships

You remember these? Friendship bracelets. It has been awhile since I had made one, but it is an amazingly unifying factor to be sitting around with a bunch of girls all busily working and chatting while making friendship bracelets and it is kind of fun too.

Day 328 - The tastes of summer

One of my all time favorite summer treats (or I suppose anytime treats) is a funnel cake covered in fresh raspberries. I have such fond memories of eating these delightful treats at the local amusement park growing up. Even back then they cost a pretty penny and the group of us would pile around one or two and chow down like pigs at a trough, but we didn't care. My mom eventually found a recipe for them in an American Heritage cookbook (Which she promptly purchased just for said recipe) and ever since then the amusement park has been optional for funnel cake enjoyment. This one came on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Day 327 - Attack of Crush

Even with his balloon gun, he was no match for the attacking robotic turtle. He had fun trying to get it anyway.

Day 326 - Spider...?

He asked her for a spider, but got a snake instead. After a little coxing, I convinced him a snake was much cooler.

Day 325 - A house of our own

Several months ago, I saw this idea in a magazine for creating a card table house. They used a permanent marker to create it. I thought to myself, "Self, I could do better than that, I could sew it and make it really detailed." While that was a nice thought and definitely possible for someone who actually knows how to use a sewing machine, for me it was something way out of my league. However, I am proud to say that I did complete it (mostly). We have a few more touches that we would like to add like shutters on the windows and apples that we could Velcro to the tree, flowers - you know all those "little" touches that end up being way more complicated than you think they should be. But for now, the kid love playing in it and it was kind of a fun thing to figure out and make.

Day 324 - Harvest time

Just harvested these delicious babies! Yum.

Day 323 "Banilla" Lolli

Free lollipop! Yum.

Day 322 - "Healthy" brownies

I have had a major sweet tooth this pregnancy. Major. So to help ease my guilt and also get my fix, I made these brownies. They are low fat, low sugar, made with whole grain wheat, fiber, and ground flax seeds and surprisingly tasty. Do you think this means I can eat the whole pan now? Didn't think so either.

Day 321 - Weather

While camping we experienced a large gamut of weather. We had rain, thunder and lightening, hail, snowball fights, and even warm sunshine. I loved the look of the clouds slipping off the top of the mountains.

Day 320 - Wild Life

This was one of our campground friends. Luckily, he kept his distance and so did we.

Day 318 - Waffle attempt 4 & 5

#4 - By far the best of the attempts thus far, but could have used a little more rising time.

#5 Hands down the best, but also the most insane recipe requiring constant monitoring and over 24 hours of time, yielding only 6 waffles, yes 6. (I wouldn't have done it) However, It was divine! A little Nutella, a little fresh raspberry jam, a lot of Mmmm.

Day 316 - Backyard Camp Out

After a long couple weeks away on business, Papa and the kiddos spent a fun evening camping out in the backyard. They watched fireworks, ate treats and read Harry Potter. They didn't however make shadow puppets, eat smores or go for a night hike, all of which the little guy thought were necessary parts of camping. Despite missing out on those, they still had a fun night out.
